Head, Economic Research

Description

  • Undertake and support the Group’s strategic objectives via economic research and sectoral analysis for the Management and Board to advance strategies, identify risks and business opportunities. 

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Drive and lead SCEA’s research and analysis based on internal and external sources of data to derive value-added leads and provide strategic recommendations and sectoral outlook based on macroeconomic analysis in order to complement the Management, Board and the Group’s decision-making process.
  • Formulate views and forecasts on Malaysia’s economy and BNM’s OPR rate, while keeping abreast with current economic issues and trends.
  • Assess major economic events and Malaysia’s annual National Budget especially those affecting the SME sector.
  • Monitor and advise on key global economic developments, in particular advanced countries and regional peers which impacts the domestic economy and SME Bank (if any).
  • Review, develop and enhance macroeconomic forecasting models using high frequency indicators.
  • Ensure accurate reporting to stakeholders both internally and externally, presenting research and analysis in an easy to understand and diplomatic manner.
  • Supervise the team’s economists and data analysts.
  • Conduct knowledge sharing/awareness sessions and facilitate dissemination of relevant data and findings to benefit staffs within the Group and existing customers. 
  • Provide economic related opinions, content and supporting statistics to SME clients to deepen their understanding of the current environment.
  • Provide support for economic related questions and queries pertaining to the Management/Ministers’ interview scripts, speeches and Q&A on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Effective team management and talent development. Train Economics & Data Analytics team to be more sensitive towards changes in data as well as cause and effect impact analysis.
  • Perform any other relevant duties and responsibilities as assigned from time to time.

Qualification & Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in related industries and had assumed management positions
